It's finally here! The Lasting Change financial literacy program begins this Thursday, March 4 at the William Wells Brown Community Center (547 East Sixth Street). Dinner will be served from 6:30-7:15 p.m. and the 'class' will last from 7:15-8:30 p.m. Participants will receive $5 for every class they attend, and can earn additional monies (up to $75!) by opening a checking/savings account. Every participant will be paired with an 'asset mentor' who will help and encourage them throughout the program. The last class will be held on April 8.

ReplyDeleteI would like to thank each and every person involved in leading and directing the Lasting Change program.
You all have prooven to be doers of the word. You have given of yourselves in order to help the participants of Lasting Change to rethink our present situations.
Annie, and Angela you are more than wonderful. It is good to know people who work and share in the ways that you do.
The name Lasting Change is very fitting for what has been taught. Each of us were asked to set short and long term goals. We were blessed to have mentors to help us to keep up with what was being taught.
A lot of times when someone does something nice, people often say "Oh you didn't have to do that", This is what makes what was done so special. That you didn't have to do it.
Rosemary, Nathan, Warren, Sue, Jake and Kyle, May there be added grace and unmerited favor for you being their for all of us.
Rebbecca or 'Becca' as we called her, Gave of her time to teach us the importance of eating right. How we could save by choosing different foods rich in protein and eating foods that are inexpensive but taste great. My family cooks with ground Turkey, something we have never done and we all Love It!!
Scott taught us to examine the difference in what we want and what we really need.
Looking at this we can decide where our funds can be most effective. He encouraged us to save by first cutting out unnecessary spending and making wise purchases.
Some one may say "I know all of that,,,," but how often we don't show it. More often than not we waste and spend without planning.
Lasting Change gave us incentives to reexamine our lives and started us on a road that will make life a whole lot more of what it is supposed to be.
With Love and sincerity:
Your friend,
Michael A. Overstreet
